Capacity Building
NDIS Capacity Building Funds
If you’re eager to acquire new skills that can propel you towards your goals, the NDIS Capacity Building Funds offer valuable assistance. These funds are distinct from your core support budget and cannot be reallocated between support categories. The capacity-building budget empowers you to foster greater independence by enabling the acquisition of supports within various capacity-building categories:
- Health and Well-Being – including exercise and sport participation.
- Home Living – encompassing support for maintaining home living abilities or acquiring suitable accommodation.
- Lifelong Learning – providing assistance with educational opportunities.
- Employment – facilitating access to employment prospects.
- Social and Community Participation – encouraging engagement in community-based recreational activities and support.
Capacity Building
At My Daily Support Services, we wholeheartedly believe that, despite our unique differences, we all possess the capacity for growth and skill development. Our primary objective is to empower you with opportunities and choices that foster an active, independent life, providing you with a sense of control over your journey.
In collaboration with you, we’ll explore the possibilities within your NDIS package, ensuring you have access to ample information to make informed decisions. Throughout this journey, you’ll be in the driver’s seat, making your own choices and setting the pace for how you want to progress.

Increased Social and Community Participation
Enhanced Social and Community Participation (Support Category 9) is a funded support category that may be included in your NDIS plan, listed under Capacity Building Supports.
This category of funding can be used to pay for art classes, sports coaching and similar activities that build skills and independence.
It can be used to pay for camps, classes and vacation activities that have capacity-building components. These may include assistance to establish volunteer arrangements in the community, mentoring, peer support or individual skill development.
It’s crucial to note that all supports funded under this item must align with the participant’s plan goals and be determined as “reasonable and necessary.”
Examples provided by the NDIS of support that can be funded include:
- Universal recreational activities: A participant may have the option to receive funding for a limited number of lessons to explore and assess their interest and capability in pursuing activities such as horse riding, art, dance, or singing classes. This allows participants to try out new experiences before making a more significant commitment.
- Funding to attend a “camp” or groups that build a person’s relationship skills and offer a range of activities and opportunities to explore wider interests.
- Other items or adjustments Funding for custom tools or equipment that are necessary due to a person’s disability may also be available. For instance, if you aspire to play all abilities golf and require an adapted golf club, or if you wish to participate in a drumming class and need an adapted glove to improve your ability to grip drumsticks, these adaptations could potentially be funded to support your engagement in these activities.
